Brook Band Illuminates at DeSoto

Sunday, October 8 2006

Clear Brook Band, in its first outing at the DeSoto Marching Classic near Dallas, made an illuminating impression on Saturday, Oct. 7 as grand champion and winner of the class AAAA prelims! Congratulations to the band, which also won recognition in both prelims and finals for outstanding winds and general effect. In prelims, Brook took home first place honors for outstanding percussion, and color guard won first place in a separate indoor competition. Prior to their arrival at DeSoto, band students on the buses found inspiration from a video assembled by their director, Stan Mauldin, from snapshots of the season and student commentary. Weather and transportation cooperated to make it a beautiful day for the travelers. The band is grateful to the Mason and Scioneaux families for their extraordinary efforts in feeding the students and entourage and to Susan Crane for lending her warming dishes and catering expertise. Thanks also to the truck drivers, band aides, chaperones and food servers.
