Short Practice, Meal and Rally Performance Planned for Thursday, Aug. 24

Students will have a short practice at 3 p.m., before changing and leaving school for the "Recognized" Rally on Thursday, Aug. 24. They will wear their new marching show shirts and denim shorts and board the buses for a 4:45 p.m. departure to CCISD Stadium. The timing for this event differs from that of a football game. Parents do not need to bring a meal to the students, because the district plans to serve them a meal shortly after their arrival at the stadium. The one-hour event begins at 6 p.m., and the band performs at 6:25 p.m. Students should return to the school by 8 p.m.Chaperone Training Scheduled This Week

Chaperone training will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 and Friday, Aug. 18 in the band hall. Each year, parents who wish to chaperone for games, contests or band trips must attend one chaperone training session.Family Social Launches "Illumination" Program

Band families were treated to previews of the first three movements of this season's marching program, featuring music by Igor Stravinsky, on Thursday, Aug. 10. The presentations by color guard, percussion and then the hornline capped off an evening of getting to know our new band families. During the evening, 75 more families joined the band booster club, and parents and students purchased about $4,000 in items to support our band. Students will have photographs taken in their band sections on Tuesday afternoon before practice. Students should plan to come about half an hour earlier than the scheduled time in order to have time to check out a uniform and change. Band instrument sections with earlier scheduled times may go home after their photos to have dinner and return by the rehearsal time.Here is the schedule for photographs:
3:30 p.m., clarinets
3:45 p.m., flutes
4 p.m., French horns & tubas
4:30 p.m., trumpets, saxophones and bass clarinets (with double reed instruments who would prefer to be photographed with their concert instrument instead of their marching instrument)
4:45 p.m., baritones and trombones
5 p.m., percussion – battery and front ensemble
5:15 p.m., guard, drum majors, directors

Students will have photographs taken in their band sections on Tuesday, Aug. 8 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Practice begins at 5:30 p.m. that day. Students should come to the uniform room to check out their uniforms for the first time this year. They will go to the uniform room and ask for their jacket number. Students will wear a T-shirt and a pair of non-bulky elastic-waist shorts underneath the uniforms. They should wear black socks and band shoes if they have them. (Students who do not have band shoes yet should wear black shoes.) Photos appear in the media guide in black and white. Students who are not marching but wish to appear in the media guide should discuss checking out a uniform with the uniform chairperson, Jana Jackson.Ice Cream Social on Friday, Aug. 4

Students will celebrate the end of the first full week of summer band practice with an ice cream social on Friday, Aug. 4. Students can bring ice cream treats to practice that morning, or their parents can bring them later. Please bring packaged items, such as ice cream sandwiches, Popsicles or Eskimo pies. Please do not bring tubs of ice cream, as there is no easy way to serve it. Hospitality chair Kathy Mason will keep the goodies cold until band practice dismisses at about 1 p.m.Return to archives
